Why is Our Cause So Important at Angels for Pets
“Every time an animal is placed in foster care, we save more lives: the life of that animal and the lives of other animals who now have a home in the shelter.”
Thousand of homeless animals come through the doors of local Philadelphia shelters every year. Unfortunately, these shelters are not large enough to house of all Philadelphia’s homeless animals. But thanks to an amazing network of volunteer foster parents, these compassionate people provide temporary care by getting animals out of the shelter into safe, loving homes where they can grow or heal until they are ready for permanent adoption.
However, being a foster parent is very expensive. Animals require food, water, veterinary care, medicine, bedding, crates, etc. Therefore, Angels For Pets is dedicated to assisting shelters and foster parents with these expenses. This assistance enables veteran foster parents to continue to offer temporarily homes for animals, as well as encouraging new people to join the foster network and open up their homes to these innocent animals.
It is clear that animals are a very important presence in our lives. More than 64 million households in theUnited Statesinclude one or more companion animal and Angels For Pets recognizes the importance of the relationship between humans and their pets. The human-animal bond is very important in that each influences the psychological and physiological state of the other.
Human-animal interaction has profound physiological consequences. People who own pets experience a decrease in blood pressure, reduced anxiety, and a general feeling of well being. The therapeutic value of animals for socially isolated individuals in nursing homes, hospitals, hospices, and prisons has been documented. People in the presence of animals are often perceived to be more happy and healthy.
There are so many important pieces to this puzzle of saving innocent lives. Foster parents are a very important piece and by helping them, we are all joining forces to help save the lives of innocent animals every single day.
